It doesn't get much more American than football and rock 'n' roll. This year's Super Bowl tradition will likely be quite a bit different than we're all used to, but we've still been reminiscing about some of our favorite rock performances of the mid-2000s. In celebration of Sunday's big game, we've put together a list of the most memorable guitar-centric Super Bowl halftime shows in recent memory -- and even included some tutorials so you can get in on the action.

A three-time inductee to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, Eric Clapton has certainly earned his place among the most influential guitarists of our time. His stints with the Yardbirds, Bluesbreakers, Cream, and as a solo artist have shaped blues rock and pop rock for over 50 years. Clapton's playing combines deep blues influences from Robert Johnson, Muddy Waters, Buddy Guy, B.B. King, and more with the rock sound of British contemporaries like The Beatles and Rolling Stones. While Eric Clapton is considered by many to be a true master of the craft, you don't need to be an expert to start learning some of his most iconic songs.

With countless songs of sorrow and redemption -- all sung with a deep baritone voice and a trusty 6-string dreadnought -- Johnny Cash, aka "The Man in Black" was one of the genre-bending kings of country, rock and roll and gospel. Guitar chord changes can be easy if you follow some of these tips from instructor Gary Heimbauer. These are five quick and easy tips on how to master perfect chord changes. 

The guitar fretboard or “fingerboard” is the part of the guitar where all of the metal frets are placed. The fretboard is used by holding down the strings against each fret and then either picking or strumming some, or all of the strings. The vibrating motion of the string against the metal frets create the sounds of different musical notes. The fretboard of a modern guitar is made up of a number of pieces and it’s important for guitar players to know which piece is which, as well as learn ways to develop memorization of the fretboard notes.
